Club Ice Hockey recently traveled to Northbrook, Illinois for the ACHA Central Regional Tournament. The D2 team won their first game but came just short of advancing to the National Tournament in Florida. We caught up with Junior Forward, Alex Edwards, on the recent successes of Club Ice Hockey!


When was Club Ice Hockey established at SIUE?
The club was established in 1996.

When did you start playing ice hockey?
I started playing ice hockey when I was 4 years old.

Why did you join the club organization at SIUE?
I joined the club because I wanted to continue playing hockey while I went to school because I have played hockey all my life.

What is your favorite thing about playing Club Sports at SIUE?
My favorite thing about playing hockey is the friends that I have made and how competitive the league, and games that we play are.

How often do you practice? What is a typical practice like?
We practice twice a week and they consist of a lot of skating and flow drills. We also work on systems and do some fun little games at the end of practice.

How often do you have games?
We have two games almost every weekend on Friday nights and Saturdays.

What is it like to travel and compete against different schools?
Its a lot of fun to travel and see how different campuses are and how it is different from SIUE.

What is a tradition your team has?
A big tradition we have is we treat our jerseys like a flag we don’t let them touch the ground.

What is your favorite memory participating in Club Sports?
My favorite memory so far is when we won the championship for our league. (Picture of the team after they beat the Missouri State Ice Bears 5-1 in the MACHA Championship in 2010)

What is your team most looking forward to?
We are looking forward to our schedule next year. We are playing a lot of good teams. We are playing both teams that were just in the D2 club national championship.
